Yes, wedding season is well underway and a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be a part of the Kakadelas/Jacobs' lovely celebration. The affair was Marie-Antoinette themed, so along with lavish decoration and bold color, cake was abundant! Faux flower cakes served as whimsical centerpieces for the plum colored tables. Twenty eight mini cakes and some seventy or so
I hopped on a plane to San Diego, stocked with all the necessary baking and decorating supplies, and proceeded to turn the Kakadelas' kitchen into a mini bakery. The affair turned out to be great fun, with the whole family pitching in to help (from mixing... to washing dishes... to tasting). Over the few days leading up to the wedding reception, the mini cakes were baked, filled, & decorated. Cakes were light-as-air lemon chiffon cake with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream, perfect for a summer wedding. The cupcakes were simple chocolate and vanilla, topped with decadent swirls of pastel buttercream, each sitting inside of a swirly cupcake wrapper found at Paper Orchid.
Cakes and cupcakes sat atop tiny little cake stands and candelabras crafted by Amorology's brilliant Heather Balliet - who coordinated the whole wedding extravaganza down to every darling detail. Working with Heather & the Kakdelas family was wonderful! Everyone danced the night away under the beautiful San Diego sky & ate cake...lots of cake.
Congratulations to Kirsten & Michael, and an amazing future together!
